This is my family. I created these images to both honor my own past and to create a keepsake portrait of my loved ones. Theses images are meant to evoke memories that span one lifetime as well as show the passage of time over the course of several generations. These "memory portraits" speak to our shared past and, in particular, the role photography has played in preserving and creating our fondest memories.
Reflections are simple optical illusions that many people dismiss as annoying distractions. However, if you take the time to look, you may notice something surprising. Oftentimes, reflections can create startling new ways of viewing the world around us. They can also force us to reflect on our place in that world. These images were not created but, rather, found. Nothing in this portfolio was digitally manipulated beyond general contrast and color correction.
"The eyes of an animal when they consider a man are attentive and wary... But by no other species will the animal's look be recognized as familiar. Other animals are held by the look. Man becomes aware of himself returning the look... The animal has secrets which, unlike the secrets of caves, mountains, seas, are specifically addressed to man."
